Jay Cutler’s Happy Return to Denver

DallDenver+BroncosJay Cutler returned to his old home, Invesco field in Denver, but this time with a new team, the Chicago Bears. The Bears dealt the Denver Broncos a heavy defeat with a 27-17 win. Cutler was traded from the Broncos to the Bears in the offseason in a move that included the former Chicago quarterback, Kyle Orton who heads the Denver offense and now faces his old team.

The scoreboard opened up in the first quarter in the Broncos’ favor with a 31 yard field goal by kicker Matt Prater. Still, Chicago tied pretty soon after with a 40 yard field goal of their own by Robbie Gould. In the second quarter, the Bears took off for the lead with two touchdowns, the first one a product of a one yard carry by Matt Forte, and the second with a 6 yard pass by Cutler, also to Forte.

In the third quarter, Peyton Hillis brought the Broncos in for a touchdown with a two yard carry. The final quarter began in favor of the “Windy City” Bears, with another touchdown thanks to a 12 yard carry by Bears’ runningback Adrian N. Peterson (not the Vikings runningback, to clear up any confusion).

The Broncs responded with another touchdown by Darius Walker, closing the gap 7 points, but Robbie Gould widened it again with a 25 yard field goal, scoring the 27th point for the Bears.  Cutler finished off the night with 21 pass attempts, 15 of which completed for a total of 144 yards with one touchdown and zero interceptions.

Kyle Orton made 16 pass attempts, with 12 completions for 96 yards. No touchdown passes, and no interceptions. So Chicago has a 2-1 record so far for the preseason, and the Broncs chalk up yet another loss, leaving them at 0-3.
