Jets in a Downward Spiral
Long gone are the heady days of September when it seemed as if the New York Jets might just be the best team in football betting. Rookie head coach Rex Ryan was a defensive genius and young Mark Sanchez was the second coming of Joe Willie Namath. It’s funny the amount of football betting perspective that three short weeks can provide.
Ryan is still a very good defensive mind and Sanchez does resemble Namath in at least one respect –and nearly surpassed the hall of famer’s single game mark for INTs- but this team is nowhere near among the best in sports betting. In fact, this team isn’t even the best in the division (third best, probably) or even in its city. The Jets soared to a perfect 3-0 record and has since dropped as many games and planed out to a 3-3 record.
The season is hardly over but after two tough losses to mediocre division rivals (Dolphins and Bills), Sanchez’ 700 INTs in the past three games and the loss of its 3-4 defensive line anchor the Jets’ football sports betting prospects grow dimmer by the second.
In September the goal had been a high playoff seed. Now, just getting to the post season seems like a monumental task. Sanchez has gone through a stretch of rough games. He’s more talented than his recent stats suggest, but it seems now that teams have some tape on the youngster they’ve been able to shut him down.
The running game is still strong behind a very good O-line but the offense is at risk of becoming one dimensional. The D is still applying pressure on the QB but it’s also creating very few sacks (an NFL worst 5 sacks) and giving up deep passing plays.
Long suffering Jets’ fans appear to have plenty of reasons to continue suffering this season.
