Is Denver Legit?
No team had a rockier football betting offseason than the Denver Broncos. With all the turmoil this team went through with the firing of Mike Shannahan, the jettisoning of franchise QB Jay Cutler, the Brandon Marshall saga and the uncertainty of hiring a 32-year old inexperienced head coach seemed to spell disaster for the franchise.
But after a 4-0 start, you could hardly call this football betting season a disaster. However, even after winning all four of its first four sports betting contests there are still a myriad of question marks about this team. In fact, there is no other 4-0 team in the league that remains such an unknown quantity.
Denver has taken on all comers and emerged victoriously, but it’s been helped by playing in the rotten AFC West. The two non-conference wins came over a screwball Cowboy’s team at home and an incredibly lucky last minute miracle in Cincy in a wild week one.
Say what you will about Denver, but there are more indicators that this is a good team than there are suggesting that this is a bad team.
The defense is statistically the best in NFL wagering and DE Elvis Dumervil leads the league in sacks. For the first time in years this defensive unit is scaring opponents and against a high-flying Dallas offense the D put the clamps on the passing game by pressuring Romo and playing great pass coverage in the secondary.
On offense Kyle Orton is looking more like Dan Marino than the struggling QB he was during his Chicago years. The season is far from over but with a solid defense and capable weapons on offense Denver looks to be one of the better teams in the league.
