Giants’ Defense Exposed Against Quality Opponent
Heading into week six of the NFL season the New York Giants defense looked like it was on pace to put together one of the greatest single season performances of all time. And now after the team’s first loss of the season there are a myriad of questions about this unit. After feasting on bottom dwellers this unit has now finally been exposed.
Through the first five games of the season this team was dominating the league in yards allowed per game giving up right around 100 ypg on the ground and an unfathomable 100 ypg or thereabouts in the air. But the curtain’s been pulled back thanks to Drew Brees and his high octane offense. Brees completed passes all day long and the offense scored at will against the highly touted pass defense.
The Saints finished the football betting contest with 369 passing yards and TDs to seven different players. But perhaps what’s more astonishing is the fact that the Giants normally effective pass rush didn’t even lay a finger on Brees during the sports betting action.
And the damage wasn’t inflicted only in the air as the Saints rolled up 133 yards on the ground on its way to 48 points. The Giants’ collapse on defense can be explained quite easily: the team put up huge numbers against garbage can teams.
Heading into the Saints game the Giants had previously shut down the offenses of such rotten teams as the Raiders, Chiefs, Redskins, Bucs and against the only decent offense the team faced (Cowboys) the team surrendered 31 points. The Giants are still a very good team but football sports betting fans should hold no illusions about the quality of the defense.
